During a Dec. 13 gathering, Superintendent Marcus Newsome thanked the family of Matthew G. Gwaltney for establishing a scholarship in his memory. The Matthew G. Gwaltney Memorial Scholarship will be awarded for the first time this spring to a graduate of Thomas Dale High School who plans to study engineering, math, science or journalism in college. Matthew graduated in 2001 from Thomas Dale High. He was just weeks from receiving his master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Virginia Tech when he was killed during the April 16 shootings.

 

Superintendent Marcus Newsome joined the Dec. 12 teacher appreciation event at Meadowbrook High. The school's administrative team dressed in tuxedos and served lunch to the entire staff. Banners were posted to say "Thank You to All Meadowbrook Teachers for Doing Whatever It Takes."
