School Board Meeting

Minutes for March 1, 2010

 

 

CLOSED MEETING

 

Mrs. Pettitt moved that the School Board enter into a closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 (A)(1), Code of Virginia, for discussion and consideration of an employee disciplinary matter - 1 item; and in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 (A)(2), Code of Virginia, for discussion or consideration of admission or disciplinary matters concerning students – 6 items.  Mrs. Carpenter seconded the motion, and the Board entered closed meeting at 4:03 P.M.

 

Mrs. Carpenter moved that the Board end the closed meeting; Mrs. Pettitt seconded the motion and the Board entered regular session at 6:17 P.M.

 

On motion of Mrs. Carpenter, seconded by Mrs. Pettitt, now, therefore, be it resolved that the School Board hereby certifies that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the closed meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion convening the closed meeting were heard, discussed, or considered by the School Board.

Mrs. Pettitt moved that the School Board uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation to dismiss the employee referenced in Personnel Case 2009-10/07HR. Mrs. Pettitt further moved that the Board uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion in Student Cases 2009-2010/26, 2009-2010/34 and 2009-2010/37; and to not uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion in Student Cases 2009-2010/17 and 2009-2010/29, assigning a long-term suspension through the end of the School Year. In Student Case 2007-2008/64, Mrs. Pettitt further moved that the recommendation to readmit this student be approved. Mrs. Carpenter seconded the motions, which were approved unanimously.
