Minutes for May 18, 2009

CLOSED MEETING

Mrs. Carpenter moved that the School Board enter into a closed session in accordance with Section 2.2-3711 (A)(2), Code of Virginia, for discussion and consideration of admission or disciplinary matters concerning students – 3 items. Mr. Rajah seconded the motion, and the Board entered closed meeting at 4:51 P.M.

Mrs. Carpenter moved that the Board end the closed meeting; Mr. Rajah seconded the motion and the Board entered regular session at 5:56 P.M.

On motion of Mrs. Carpenter, seconded by Mr. Rajah, now, therefore, be it resolved that the School Board hereby certifies that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the closed meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion convening the closed meeting were heard, discussed, or considered by the School Board.

Mrs. Carpenter moved that the School Board uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion in Student Case 2008-2009/73; and not uphold the Superintendent’s recommendation for expulsion in Student Cases 2008-2009/72 and 2008-2009/70 – opting for long-term suspensions. Mr. Rajah seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
