Tomahawk Creek Middle wins in VEMA competition

Tomahawk Creek Middle students won first place in the Student Media Festival of the Virginia Educational Media Association. The Tomahawk Creek team created a Photostory presentation about art that was judged Virginia’s best multi-format research project from grades 5-8.

The Business and Community Resource Bank offers an easy way to make a difference in schools by connecting people willing to share their knowledge with teachers who need classroom speakers or volunteers. Spring Run Elementary has initiated the H.E.R.O. (Help Encourage Respect for Others) program. Students are recognized for such actions as standing up for a student who was being bullied or offering to include someone who was isolated.

Healthy eating
Bensley Elementary will participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Fruit and Vegetable Program. Through this grant, staff and students will have the opportunity to try a new fruit or vegetable twice a week during the school year in an effort to promote a healthier school environment.

The Hening Elementary library is recruiting students interested in participating in the Battle of the Books. Students have a list of books to be read before Feb. 26. After they read the books, they will take Advanced Reader tests. Some students will be selected to participate in the Battle of the Books in-school competition in March.
